How Lip Filler Works
- Pre Care
- Avoid blood-thinning agents (NSAIDs) such as Advil, Ibuprofen, Aleve, Aspirin, Motrin, Vitamin E, fish oil, and St. John’s Wort for at least 7 days prior to treatment, unless medically necessary. These can increase your risk of bruising.
- Avoid alcohol for 24 hours before treatment.
- Begin taking Arnica Montana (a natural supplement that helps reduce bruising and swelling) 3–5 days prior to treatment. It can be continued post-treatment to support faster healing and minimize visible bruising.
- Schedule fillers at least 1 month before a major event or trip.
- Let us know if you have any history of cold sores or herpes outbreaks in the treatment area so we can pre-treat appropriately.
- You are not a candidate for injectable treatments if you are currently pregnant or breastfeeding.
- During Treatment
Your provider will evaluate your facial structure, discuss your goals, and design a personalized treatment plan just for you. A topical numbing cream is applied for comfort, and the treatment typically takes about 60 minutes. You’ll notice immediate results, with continued refinement over the next 1–2 weeks.
- Post Care
- Apply a cool compress for 20 minutes on 20 minutes off each hour to reduce swelling.
- Avoid alcohol, salt, and strenuous exercise for 24 hours.
- No saunas, hot tubs, or direct sun exposure for 72 hours.
- Use Tylenol (acetaminophen) for discomfort—no NSAIDs for 24 hours.
- Sleep with your head slightly elevated and avoid sleeping face-down.
- Avoid makeup for the rest of the day post-procedure.
- Wait two weeks before any dental work, vaccines, or laser treatments.
- Do not massage or manipulate the area unless instructed.
Full results appear after 2–3 weeks as swelling subsides and filler settles.
